#113 - Attend a Talk by an Eminent Political and/or Religious
World Leader
May 2, 2009 - His Holiness the Dalai Lama
visits Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA - I was joind by John Mador and
his girlfriend Elizabeth Brinkerhoff, as well and Anna Bass and her
friend Krystal Kornegay. Mr. Lama spoke in two sessions. The morning
session was an introduciton to Tibetan Buddhism and the Four Noble
Truths. The afternoon session was on his personal views on "A Path to
Peace and Happiness". I found the morning session to be a little hard
to follow, not only because of language barrier issues but because it
felt like a lecture he had given ten thousand times before. The
afternoon session, however, felt much more personal and relaxed. It was
a truly wonderful experience, and despite the fact that I have no
strong feelings toward Buddhism, it was quite spiritual to be in His
Holiness' presence.
Plus, we had a lot of fun playing around with a paper cut-out of the
Dalai Lama from the program that was handed out. And I learned to play
one of those singing bowls.
Elizabeth's blog about it is here.
Lots of pictures (courtesy of Krystal) here,
but this one is one of my favorites:
