#95 - Run a 5k (contributed by Jess Bickel)
May 16, 2009 - The Riverfront Run to benefit The
Riverfront Children's Center in Groton, CT - It was actually more like
5.3-5.5 km. Cathy Johnson (a friend from work) talked me into it
almost-last-minute. Will Repsher and Dan Ippolito joined us. It was a
relatively cool, foggy morning. Perfect running weather. I chose to
stick with Cathy, even though she runs slower than I do. It was worth
it because she says she would have stopped a couple of times if I
hadn't been there. In sticking with my promise to never reveal my time
to my friend Dwija, who is annoyingly over-competitive and would give
me a ton of shit for it because she could have done better, despite the
fact that I openly admit that my time was not impressive and I'm okay
with it because I went slower so I could keep with a friend, I will not
post my time here. I will, however, note that I took 3rd place in the
men's 30-39 ("submaster") group! My theory is that there were only
three men in the group, or possibly even two but that my time was so
much worse than 1st place that they couldn't justify giving me 2nd.
Also, thanks to the slower pace we kept, I honestly felt that I could
have run it again. Perhaps I'm starting to hate running less than I did
only a few weeks ago?
