NGK Day 2008

What To Bring

I've attempted to provide a fairly comprehensive list of things you'll need to bring, but since I'm writing this on a Sunday morning, while watching “The Hunt for Red October”, after a very long night of drinking, it's possible that I missed something. This should be used as a handy checklist, but in the end it's up to you to determine what you will really need.

IMPORTANT: If you do not have or cannot figure out how to come up with a tent for camping, please let me know. I cannot promise that I'll be able to help, but I can try. However, you need to make every possible effort to get a tent for yourself or bunk up with someone you know. The same goes for food/drinks/snacks. I simply cannot afford the time, space or expense of shopping for everyone, so you're on your own.

For Driving:

For Camping:

  • We're staying at Oregon Brook Road Camping in Sheffield, VT. Their website is here. They have showers, picnic tables, fire rings, and clean outhouse facilities. Plan accordingly.

  • Tent with rain fly and ground cloth

  • Sleeping bag and sleeping pad

  • $10 per person per night

  • Plenty of comfortable clothes

  • Towels and toiletries

  • Easy-up/screen house (I'll bring one of these)/tarp if you have one. We may not use it, but it's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

  • Camp chair

For Eating:

  • ALL your own consumables – food, drinks, snacks, etc.

  • All necessary cooking and eating utensils, including your own pots, pans, etc.

  • I will have a propane stove and small propane grill available for public use

  • The campground will provide firewood for cooking

For Playing (will vary according to your plans):

  • Hiking boots, water containers, and other hiking necessities

  • Bicycle and relevant appurtenances

  • Canoe/kayak and whatever you need for that

  • Keep in mind that bikes, canoes and kayaks can be rented locally

  • Frisbee, bocce, lawn darts, other campground games

For Everything:

  • Sunscreen

  • Rain gear

  • Insect repellent (expect mosquitoes and/or black flies)

We're pretty close to the town of Sheffield, and the bustling metropolis of Saint Johnsbury is only half an hour away. Thus you don't need to worry if you forgot something. We can find it somewhere.
